The Roxburghe Championship Golf Course was conceived by The Duke of Roxburghe, an avid golfer who commissioned Dave Thomas to design and construct this challenging Scottish Borders golf course on the Roxburghe estate.

The course was opened in 1997 and the result of Thomas's design bears his distinct hallmark of deep challenging bunkers and large rolling greens.

The wide fairways of the course follow the natural contours of the landscape and, make full use of the many changes in levels .

The signature hole is "Viaduct", an elevated tee commanding superb views over the River Teviot that hugs the left of the fairway with an imposing viaduct running across the horizon.

The heart of the Roxburghe course are the par threes, play these well and you will hopefully card a good score as three of them are around the 190 yards mark.

Because of the water hazards on hole two and bunkering on the third, the ball has to be long, high and straight to have any chance of reaching the putting surface in regulation.

When Colin Montgomerie opened the course with Nick Faldo in 1997, he commented:

"I was impressed with the design and the quality of The Roxburghe. The Greens were immaculate and the course picturesque, a pleasure to play for professional and amateur alike".
